Fossil of the Year 2020

The Fossil of the Year 2020 is Archaeopteryx. It exemplifies the transition between non-avian feathered dinosaurs and modern birds and is one of the best known fossils worldwide. All specimens were found in the Upper Jurassic Solnhofen Limestone, ca. 150 million years old. These photographs show the Eichstätt specimen, housed in the Jura-Museum Eichstätt.
